The Golden Compass Review

"It is the Alethiometer. It tells the truth. As for how to read it, you'll have to learn by yourself." This is the tagline of the movie "The Golden Compass" directed by Chris Weitz, is an exciting fantasy adventure film based on the book series of Philip Pullman and was released in 2007 by New Line Cinema. It stars Daniel Craig as Lord Asriel, Nicole Kidman as Marisa Coulter, Eva Green as Serafina Pekkala and Dakota Blue Richards as Lyra Belacqua.

The story take place in a parellel universe where a person's soul resides outside the body in an animal-like form called a "daemon",Lyra Belacqua, tells tales of the "Gobblers", whom she and her friends believe are responsible for children's disappearance. Visiting the college is Lyra's uncle, Asriel., after Lyra saves Asriel from an assassination attempt by a Magisterial representative is when she is thrown into a perilous adventure because after that she overhears a conversation of an extraordinary microscopic particle, Dust. This particle is said to unite different worlds, and is feared by many who want to destroy it forever inmediatly the college funds his expedition to the far north to investigate the Dust substance Asriel believes it originates in a parallel universe and enters a person's body via their daemon. Fearing the effects of Dust, the Magisterium has been experimenting on children to discover a way to inoculate others against it.
As Lyra is flung into the middle of this horrible struggle, she meets wondrous creatures both big and small, and villains who are not what they seem. Gobblers, that kidnap children, will turn out in the most unexpected places and a magical compass of gold that will answer any question if one is skilled enough to read it. Lyra is not a young girl living among scholars her world may seem diverse, from physical embodiments of souls that take the shape of an animal, but similar with people around you to become friends and enemies.

The cast is excelent,
Nicole Kidman tries to charm and wheedle the compass from Lyra. Her army of childcatchers the Gobblers kidnap children and ship them to the Arctic for no sensible reason. Lyra is bestfriended by a motley collection of well-known hams, including Sam Elliot as a Texas cowboy and Eva Green as a friendly witch. The show is stolen by a fierce, violent and preposterously camp polar bear who roars to Lyra's defence at every opportunity an enormous scrap at the end, involving witches and warlocks.

"The Golden Compass" I think it is a wonderful fantasy story, with a great cast, the special effects are fantastic all the movie is great. Lyra's adventure continues throughout in three books, and the first is about to be told, if you want to know what happen after its you´ll have to read the books.
